“What is humor about?” - 11/30/2011

Transcript

what is humorabout? Well, it‘s about life. It‘s about the small, ordinary things of life. It‘s about whatwe have in common, which is what politics is about, as well. These are times when wehave so much less in common than before. The world is split up into little pieces. Themost successful TV shows have rather small audiences, maybe 5, 6, maybe 8 million people out of this whole vast country.

There used to be Elvis and Frank Sinatra and the Beatles. There aren‘t people like thatanymore, people who everyone would recognize by their voice. We‘ve become different and estranged from each other. But humor and politics can bring us back together. And if politics can't, then I have my doubts about humor, too.
