Work begins. A wall will split Berlin in 2.

The Soviets weren’t kidding. Work began this morning on a 12-foot high concrete wall stretching 103 miles through the city of Berlin. Millions of people have fled from the Communist East to the Free West, but the wall, topped with barbed wire and guard towers, will put a stop to that. As JFK warned in July, this could mean war with Russia.
